Misdemeanors do not automatically drop off your record after 3 years

If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor in Ohio, it will not drop automatically off of your criminal record after 3 years. You need to take an active role in erasing or expunging the misdemeanor from your criminal record.

The first step in the process is to determine what your criminal record actually is by performing a background check on yourself.

If you have determined that your background check reflects a misdemeanor in your past then you need to begin the expungment process provided that you have met all the other necessary expungement prerequisites.

We have an expungement application that you can download or we have the complete expungement process explained in our guide to expunging your criminal record.
